GlobalSat L100-H Join request / response datarate incorrect behavior for AS923 Band
We found recently that the GlobalSat L100-H device is not enabling the Downlink_Dwell (LoraWAN 1.0.2 specficiation) nor the LBT (Japan and Korea Specificities in AS923 cluster) with the factory firmware configuration.
This leads to improper datarate and miss-behavior during the join procedure.
Erroneous device behavior with a device that is provision as AS923/lorawan 1.0.2 compliant.
1. A device boot (incorrectly) at SF12 and send a join request.
2. as the device is located in AS923 RF region & lorawan 1.0.2 compatible the network server apply the specification and limit it's reply to SF10 by sending a JOIN-REQUEST
3. The device does not receive the message (SF different) and thus retry a join procedure.
But you can easily enable the LBT and Downlink_Dwelltime on your Globalsat :
Please activate the Down_dwellTime for all AS923 usage of the globalSAT
Please activate the LBT ONLY for Japan and Korea usage
How to update the default configuration and make the globalsat behavior compatible with the AS923/LoraWAN specification.
- Start the device normally
- Connect the device to your computer with the Serial cable
- Press quickly the power button to enable USB configuration mode (Red LED is blinking)
- Open TeraTerm and go into the “Setup” menu selection “Terminal”
- Enable the local echo and change New line value from “CR” to “CR+LF” for Transmit and Receive
- Connect on the correct COM port
- You should the device logs on the screen. Enter the command GSC,GlobalSatTR-203,LR*QQ! on the screen to switch in AT command mode
- Check the current Down_Dwelltime value by typing AAT2 Down_Dwelltime=? and press Enter
- Enable the Downlink_Dwelltime by typing AAT2 Down_Dwelltime=1 and press Enter
- JAPAN/KOREA only: Check the current LBT value by typing AAT2 LBTMode=? and press Enter
- JAPAN/KOREA only: Enable the LBT by typing AAT2 LBTMode=1 and press Enter
- Save the device: AAT1 Save
- Reset the device to apply the new config: AAT1 Reset
- Keep the power button press until the Red LED shutdown to leave the AT command mode
- Keep the power button to start the device
We already report this issue to GlobatSat and we hope a new firmware with this features enabled by default for AS923 and having a LBT mode for Korea&Japan.
In the meantime, We recommend you enable the corresponding configuration on all your Globalsat devices in AS923 cluster.
After the flashing we observe a correct behavior :
1. GlobalSAT device sent the join request @ SF10,
2. the network server reply @SF 10 + notify the device if it is locate in a restricted zone or not and set the downlink dwell time to the appropriate value
3. if the downlink dwell time is 0, the device can later on use SF12 if it is allowed by the RF region.
